“It always takes some time before an idea comes into being.”

I found a consistent theme in my designs throughout thirty years of my career in fashion. I took various elements of ethnic clothes, modified them by giving some contemporary touch and used the “new heritage” as a theme in my works.

Without a touch, a piece of cloth remains a piece of cloth. Various ethnic communities living in Indonesia, however, have masterfully touched the cloths by their indigenous artistic talents, not only to produce high class arts of clothing but also symbols of inspiration, emotional appreciation and ritual content. Each cloth has its own ethnic patterns. Rich motifs and the meaning the cloth embrace are a treasure of arts that should be preserved as a national heritage.
